How is PH diagnosed?

Common steps in the diagnosis of PH:

  1. Patient shows possible symptoms of PH
  2. Patient history information gathered
  3. Past and present health conditions
  4. Family history
  5. Past and present medications
  6. Physical examination

Tests to confirm diagnosis may include:

  • Electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • Chest x-ray
  • Echocardiogram (ECHO)
  • Pulmonary lung function testing (PFT)
  • Walk tests
  • Ventilation perfusion scanning (V/Q SCAN)
  • High resolution computed tomography (CT OR HRCT)
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI scanning)
  • Pulmonary angiography
